An investigation into an attempt to smuggle tobacco between units at the Atoka County Jail has resulted in felony contraband charges against an inmate after authorities discovered marijuana oil in his possession.
On April 20, 2026, Deputy Gavyn Castleberry of the Atoka County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Jail Administrator White regarding an incident that occurred on April 14. According to reports, Detention Officer Colley observed inmate Patrick Roof on surveillance footage placing a white bag of chewing tobacco into a water jug belonging to the jail's female unit.
The tobacco was allegedly intended for Roof’s significant other, a female inmate. A review of phone calls between Roof and his son revealed that the son had instructed the inamte to check the water jug once it was returned to the female pod.
