The clouds had barely cleared on Tuesday afternoon before the sirens of first responders and the hum of chainsaws began to fill the air in the Caney, Harmony, and Bentley areas. In the wake of a rain-wrapped tornado that reached EF-2 intensity with peak winds of 130 mph, Atoka County has shifted from a state of active danger to one of massive, coordinated recovery.
Despite the significant property damage, the community has found reason to be grateful. “At this time, we are thankful to report that no injuries have been reported,” stated Atoka County Sheriff Kody Simpson. He noted that the Sheriff’s Office remains “committed to protecting life and property across Atoka County” as the response effort continues.
