Speeding Stop Escalates to Pepper Gun Deployment

A high-speed traffic stop on Highway 69 escalated into a physical confrontation between a Caney Police Officer and a driver on April 26, 2026.

Officer Triston Williams of the Caney Police Department was conducting stationary radar near Hardesty when he observed a vehicle traveling southbound at 84 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. During the pursuit, the officer noted the vehicle weaving between lanes without signaling before eventually pulling over near Mt. Carmel Road.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Williams observed an open beer container in the center console. The driver denied having consumed any alcohol or having an open container in the vehicle. While being questioned at the rear of the truck, the driver appeared unsteady on his feet.
