Lane/Crystal News

I have been listening to lots of travel plans from friends and family so thought I would give some more tips for summer travelers. Did you know that seniors can get airline discounts from major airlines like Delta, United, and Southwest who all offer senior fares? These fares are not available online. You have to call and ask for senior discounts.

Here is how to get the deal: Call the airline directly, ask about senior fares or 55+ traveler rates. Travel on off-peak days for the biggest savings and combine them with an AARP travel deal or senior rail pass for an even more affordable trip. Amtrak has a 15% discount for 65+ and Greyhound has 5% off bus fares for 62+ passengers.

Don’t forget that if you need a passport, the Atoka Library can help you with the paperwork. Travel to Mexico and Canada require a passport. Before January 23, 2007, U.S. citizens could travel to Mexico and Canada using only a valid driver's license and a birth certificate. The requirement for passports was established to enhance security and standardize travel documentation.
