An evening traffic stop on May 31st led to a felony charges for an Atoka woman after authorities discovered hidden contraband during her booking search at the county jail.
Larisa Carpenter was taken into custody in the Subway parking lot at Mississippi Avenue and 3rd Street. An on-duty deputy spotted Carpenter riding as a front-seat passenger in a white farm truck stopped at a red light at Mississippi Avenue and Court Street. Recognizing Carpenter from prior contacts, the deputy confirmed through dispatch that she was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for resisting an officer issued on May 29th.
The initial arrest was completed without incident. Prior to transport, the arresting deputy issued a formal contraband advisal, warning Carpenter that bringing any illegal items into a penal facility constitutes a felony. When questioned at the scene, Carpenter denied having any contraband in her possession.
