An Atoka County single mother is appealing to the community for financial assistance as she recovers from a severe medical crisis.
Marcella Garrett underwent an extensive spinal fusion surgery on May 5, 2026, following a severe fall in 2024 that left her with four spinal injuries. Although she was a dedicated worker, even being recommended for Employee of the Quarter, her employer could no longer accommodate her post-surgery, and her long-term disability benefits were denied due to a pre-existing condition clause.
Garrett faces four to five more months of physical therapy before she can return to work. With her short-term disability completely exhausted, the household is currently left with no income other than her son’s monthly SSI disability benefits.
