A Mead man faces a felony and a misdemeanor in Atoka County District Court after Atoka police officers stopped his vehicle early Thursday morning near the Choctaw Nation Campus.
According to affidavits filed by Atoka Police Sergeant Michael Brewer and Master Patrol Officer Peydon Griffith, the incident occurred on July 2, 2026, at approximately 5:45 AM. Officers in the Atoka Police Department parking lot observed a gray Ford Mustang with an extremely loud exhaust and no visible license plate turning onto West Liberty Road.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, and the Mustang pulled into the Choctaw Nation Atoka Campus parking lot. After the vehicle stopped, the driver, identified by his Oklahoma driver's license as Hunter Sumner, 24, of Mead, repeatedly attempted to exit the vehicle despite instructions from Sergeant Brewer to remain inside.
