Manhunt Ends Near Caney After Driver Drags Deputy down Highway 69

A man with a Houston address is in custody following a routine speeding stop in Caney that turned into a physical struggle inside a moving vehicle and an extensive multi-agency manhunt.

The incident began at approximately 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, when an Atoka County sheriff's deputy operating stationary patrol within Caney town limits observed a gray, four-door car traveling northbound on Highway 69 at 83 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over at the intersection of Highway 69 and Voca Road.

Upon contact, the driver presented a Honduran identification card. When asked for a passport, the female passenger, later identified via passport as Leslie Abigail Alvarado Gomez, stated that he had left it at home.
