Celebrating 250 Years the Atoka Way

Hello, Atoka! Wow, can you believe the 4th of July parade that the city/county of Atoka pulled off? All this came from a simple question from the local citizenry about the possibility of having a grand 4th of July celebration to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our United States and the fact that we took a unique idea and are celebrating all the trials and tribulations to prove that we are a truly unique people, one nation, under God and blessed with the liberties and freedoms we enjoy.

America is hosting the world cup soccer games, and it has been absolutely wonderful to see as many Europeans are physically able to see and experience what America truly is. I have been able to see videos of people from all over the world speak of their experiences in America and they have been truly astounded with American hospitality, the vastness of America, the different types of American cuisine, the everyday life and experiences of the average American, and our slang/customs. Seeing all this, I was anxious to see the videos Europeans would post as they experienced the American 4th of July celebrations.

In January, a businessperson approached me while I was in downtown Atoka. I was asked if the veterans would help with a parade if it could be organized as it seemed that no one was making any plans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of our great nation.
