Wrong-Way Driver Facing Felony Charges After Highway 3 Pursuit

A Texas man faces multiple felony allegations after reportedly driving the wrong way on Highway 3, nearly striking oncoming traffic and a patrol unit.

According to the affidavit, Atoka County Sheriff's deputies responded to an 11:30 PM dispatch call on Thursday, July 9, 2026, regarding a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 3 near Forest Hill. Deputy J.D. Mixon located the suspect vehicle, a white Toyota Tundra with New Jersey plates, and activated his emergency lights.

The vehicle failed to stop, continuing to travel the wrong way in the eastbound traffic lanes. During the pursuit, the truck nearly struck Deputy Mixon's marked unit and two oncoming vehicles. Deputy Matthew Clay positioned his patrol unit in front of the truck to force it to a stop, and deputies conducted a felony traffic stop.
