A defective taillight on State Highway 3 led to the discovery of 26 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside a vehicle's center console early last month.
Atoka County Sheriff’s Deputy Corwin Ridgway reported observing a eastbound dark-colored pickup traveling about a mile east of Lane around 1:15 a.m. on July 29. The truck was operating with a defective driver-side taillight that emitted white light through a broken lens taped together.
When Deputy Ridgway attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle pulled onto the shoulder and continued driving for roughly half a mile, briefly swerved back into the roadway to bypass a disabled vehicle, and then traveled another quarter to half a mile along the shoulder before finally stopping at Highway 3 and Marlin Road.
