Heads up Lane and Crystal, congratulations go out to Elsie Frost who has been honored with the Professional Bull Riders Sharon Shoulders Award, an honor created in 2010 to recognize the great women of professional bull riding whose work, partnership and faith have been as important to the sport as the athletes themselves. Elsie is the wife of Clyde Frost, and they are the parents of the late Bull Riding Champion, Lane Frost.
The Award is named for Sharon Shoulders, the wife of legendary cowboy Jim Shoulders, and honors women whose loyalty, strength and faith helped shape western sports from behind the scenes. Elsie’s husband, Clyde, rodeoed in the same era as Jim Shoulders, and both men competed at the first National Finals Rodeo, so she has a deep appreciation for the other wives and women who, through the years, helped carry their families, their husbands, and the sport to such great heights.
Did you know that it is “Look Out for Baby Snakes Season”? Most snakes in Oklahoma breed in the spring and have their young in late summer. So, our favorites, the Cottonmouths, Copperheads, and Rattlesnakes typically give birth from late summer to early fall. Many other common non-venomous snakes also follow the same schedule. The snakes in our part of the country give live birth to their young. They retain eggs inside their bodies until they are fully developed, which helps protect the babies from predators after birth. Some species like pythons and cobras actually lay eggs.
