Search for Fleeing Driver Leads to Stolen Vehicle and Weapon Charges

A multi-agency manhunt ensued following a high-tech camera hit that alerted law enforcement to a stolen vehicle traveling through Atoka County.

Stringtown Police Deputy Chief Colley was notified by the countywide camera system that a stolen white 2021 Ford U-Haul box truck was heading southbound on Highway 69 near the Choctaw Travel Plaza. Colley located the vehicle as it pulled into the travel plaza parking lot and observed a darkhaired male driver along with two juvenile passengers inside.

As officers maneuvered into position, the driver vacated the truck and entered the business. Deputy Chief Colley, joined by Officer Castleberry and Atoka County Sheriff’s Captain Golden, made contact with the two juveniles in the vehicle. The older juvenile initially offered conflicting information, first claiming the driver went into the store wearing a dirty blue shirt, before officers checked the facility.
