Coalgate Animal Rescue Efforts (C.A.R.E.) has officially been on an intake hold for over a month as the volunteer-run organization struggles to cover outstanding veterinary bills.
The rescue currently owes approximately $1,100 to Doc Kay’s at Winsor Animal Clinic for emergency care, dental work, and spay/neuter procedures for transport dogs, alongside a significant outstanding balance at Paws in Ada for treating community dogs.
C.A.R.E. Administrator Kealy Boyett shared that turning away animals has been heartbreaking for the organization, but the financial strain has left their hands tied. Unfortunately, the suspension of services has also led to public backlash, with Boyett reporting instances of severe insults and threats from individuals angry that the rescue can no longer accept new dogs.
