Atoka County Fire Chiefs Urge 'Extreme Caution' Amid Dry Conditions

Local fire officials are asking area residents to exercise extreme caution with outdoor burning as dry conditions continue to elevate the risk of wildfires acrossAtoka County.

In a public advisory issued by the Atoka County Fire Chief's Association, authorities warned that dry vegetation combined with sudden wind shifts can cause even small, controlled fires to spread rapidly and uncontrollably within minutes.

'When in doubt, don't burn,' the association emphasized in the release, asking residents to refrain from outdoor burning whenever possible until conditions improve. Officials noted that unchecked wildfires pose a direct threat to lives, homes, livestock, and local natural resources.
