A massive wildfire burned an estimated 500 to 600 acres along West Highway 43 north of Stringtown, triggering an extensive emergency response from dozens of local and regional agencies before crews brought the flames under partial control.
Firefighters from 11 Atoka County fire departments deployed to the scene alongside units from Coal County. Emergency management personnel from the City of Atoka, Coal County, and Atoka County assisted on-site to coordinate ground operations and logistics as crews fought to suppress the rapid spread.
As of Friday, Oklahoma State Forestry firefighters remained stationed near North Cox Mountain Road to secure the area and reinforce containment perimeter lines. State forestry operators utilized bulldozers to cut containment lines through the terrain and conducted tactical back-burning operations to consume remaining fuel in the fire's path.
