In a wild fourth quarter featuring two lead changes and a special teams safety, the Atoka Wampus Cats came up just short Friday night, falling 2722 to the Hugo Buffaloes. Atoka rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to claim a late lead, only for Hugo to answer with a game-deciding 90-yard pass play with three minutes remaining.
Atoka set the tone early when Brock Smith returned the opening kickoff 35 yards to midfield. Workhorse back Gage Crenshaw immediately broke free to move the chains, and quarterback Ryan Barton capped the drive by hitting Konner Richie on a spectacular 40-yard, fully extended diving touchdown catch. Timothy Wingo’s extra point gave Atoka a 7-0 lead.
