A routine traffic stop for speeding on Sept. 1 led to drug and paraphernalia charges after officers recovered methamphetamine, digital scales, and marijuana from a vehicle.
Caney Police Department Chief Brad Jackson initiated the stop after locking a vehicle on radar traveling 90 mph in a posted 70 mph speed zone around 1:20 p.m. Jackson requested assistance at the scene, where the driver reportedly admitted that a pipe might be inside the automobile.
During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a glass pipe containing burnt residue and a crystal-like substance from a laundry basket in the backseat. A search of the passenger seat yielded a plastic bag containing a crystal-like substance, while a digital scale with residue on the weighing plate was located in the rear hatch area. Field tests on the crystal-like substances returned presumptive positive results for amphetamines.
