Stringtown Public Schools Superintendent David Morris issued a statement to district families on Sept. 4 addressing online posts referencing the district as part of an international social media trend, emphasizing that law enforcement has found no credible threat.
The posts are tied to the 'Cat in the Hat' trend circulating on TikTok, which originated in June 2026. The viral phenomenon involves copycat posts, often utilizing AI-generated imagery and audio clips, that reference specific communities and school districts to generate online views and create alarm.
Morris noted that thousands of communities across the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland have been similarly named in these posts. Local law enforcement agencies investigated the reference to Stringtown and advised district administrators that the posts are intended to gain online attention rather than indicate an actual plan of violence.
