Oklahoma lawmakers and family court officials are examining whether the state's supervised visitation system currently has enough safeguards in place to protect children and families.
The study led by State Sen. Carri Hicks (D, Oklahoma City) is being held in the wake of the death of a 6-year-old child, who was shot in the back during a visit with her father, who subsequently committed suicide.
“She saw joy and possibility in everything around her,' said Jill Walsh, the grandmother of Elizibeth “Lizzie” Feaster, who is seeking to have laws governing supervised visits in Oklahoma changed. “Lizzie was a bright, creative and clever child.”
