More than 200 participants gathered at the Atoka Sports Complex on Saturday, Sept. 19, for the 5th Annual Atoka Out of the Darkness Community Walk, uniting local residents, schools, and organizations to honor lost loved ones and promote suicide prevention awareness.
Organized in connection with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the evening gave community members a space to share memories and find strength in shared healing.
'It was a nice evening and we had just over 200 people register,' said lead organizer Coralyne Michaelis, reflecting on the turnout. 'We had a new family come and honor their loved one and hopefully know now that they are not alone.'
