Back-to-back historic seasons for the Caney Lady Cougars fast pitch softball team end with wins at the state tournament. For the first team in school history, the Lady Cougars led by Head Coach Jackie Dollarhide advanced to the state championship game in fast pitch where Caney fell 10-0 to Red Oak to end the season as the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Class B State Runner-Up.
Prior to last season, Caney had only advanced to five state tournaments (2011, 20132015 and 2024), all of which ended in firstround exits. In 2025, Caney broke through and claimed their first state tournament win (7-4 over Stuart) in fast pitch but the historic season ended in the semi final round. This season, Caney with five seniors, was determined to push the envelope and advance further than any other Caney team had ever gone.
In the opening round on Oct. 8 at Firelake Ball Fields in Shawnee Caney took a 10-2 victory over Kiowa. Hitting started slowly for the Lady Cougars; they trailed 1-0 after three innings with only 3 singles. Hits started racking up for the Lady Cougars in the fourth and fifth innings, where they recorded eight total hits but secured only two runs to tie the game at 2.
