Good News for Longtime Lane Resident Shirley Prater, a longtime resident of Lane, shared wonderful news: her son Roger Prater has received word that he is cancer-free. Shirley and her husband Owen were beloved figures at Lane School for many years, leaving a lasting positive impact on countless children and colleagues. This joyful news reminds us that hope and healing are always possible, a sentiment echoed in Psalm 118:17: 'I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.'

Important Information for Lane Seniors Regarding Medicare Flex Cards Lane seniors should be cautious about 'Medicare Flex Cards' advertised on TV. These prepaid debit cards, offered by private insurance (not Original Medicare), can be used for groceries, health items, and utilities. However, enrolling requires switching to a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, which may have limited doctor networks. Also, Flex Card funds could impact SSI benefits depending on Oklahoma's rules. Contact your state agency or a senior advocate if you believe your SSI is affected. Be aware that these cards are not 'free money,' and your Medicare plan changes upon enrollment. Track your card balance at www.pebc.payflex.com or 877-644-5124 and understand your plan's benefits after the card is empty.

The doors open at 9:00 a.m., and they eat at noon, remaining open until everyone departs. Director Janis Isbell emphasizes that there is no charge for the meal; a donation jar is available for those who wish to contribute. If you are unable to pay, the meal is free. Judy Rector-Johnson shared that local hunter Sam Shoemake generously provided some squirrels, which were transformed into a popular squirrel-dumpling dish at last Friday's gathering. Thank you, Sam!
