A welfare check on a vehicle parked near the Oklahoma State Reformatory led to the arrest of a man found nude inside and the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on May 3, 2025.
According to a report by Officer Christian Minyen of the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 5:57 AM. Officer Minyen was on patrol northbound on Highway 69 when he observed a green two-door Chevrolet parked on the shoulder, facing southbound, near the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 43. This location is noted for frequent contraband drops in proximity to the nearby correctional facility.
Officer Minyen turned his patrol unit around, positioned it behind the Chevrolet, activated his emergency lights, and advised dispatch he would be conducting a welfare check.
Approaching the driver's side, the officer observed a sunshade and blanket covering the front windshield. Using a flashlight, Officer Minyen illuminated the driver's side window and saw a male, later identified as Brenton D. McCoy, lying completely nude inside the vehicle. The officer also noted multiple adult novelty items and condoms in the front seat area around McCoy.
After several minutes of knocking on the window, Officer Minyen woke McCoy. Upon McCoy rolling down the window, he was informed that being nude or exposing oneself on a public roadway is unlawful under Oklahoma State Statute. Mc-Coy was instructed to put on clothing and exit the vehicle, and was advised that his actions were potentially injurious to public morals.
Upon McCoy exiting the vehicle, Officer Minyen observed multiple containers and what appeared to be a pipe in the driver's side door. Two multicolored rubber cylinders were also visible, which the officer, based on training and experience, believed are often used to conceal narcotics.
McCoy was asked to sit in the passenger seat of the patrol unit. When questioned about his nudity, McCoy reportedly stated he did not know why and that it was embarrassing. When further questioned about illegal items in the vehicle, McCoy initially denied possession of any contraband.
However, after Officer Minyen mentioned the items seen inside, McCoy admitted to the presence of a glass pipe containing trace amounts of methamphetamine.
McCoy was then asked to exit the patrol unit, was placed in hand restraints, and secured in the rear of the vehicle pending a probable cause search of his car.
The subsequent search of Mc-Coy's vehicle revealed a crystallike substance inside one of the rubber compartments and a glass pipe on the front passenger seat containing a burnt crystal residue. The substance in the pipe later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Following the investigation, Brenton D. McCoy was arrested for the aforementioned violations and transported to the Atoka County Jail for booking. His vehicle was towed from the scene.
