Three Atoka County Students Awarded Scholarships by Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation

Three promising young women from Atoka County have recently been recognized for their academic achievements and potential through scholarships from the Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation.

Kathy Jo Lahman, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lahman of the Mt. Carmel community, has received a $250.00 scholarship. She plans to further her education at Southeastern State College in Durant.

Victoria Kay Zacharias, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Zacharias of the Caney community, has also been awarded a $250.00 scholarship. She is set to attend college at Southeastern State College in Durant as well.

Marlan Jaye (Olsen) Downard, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Olsen of Route 2, Atoka, is the third Atoka County recipient, receiving a $50.00 scholarship from the Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation. Miss Downard also intends to pursue her studies at Southeastern State College in Durant.

Additionally, another student, whose name is not visible in the provided snippet, will also receive a $250 scholarship from the Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation at the beginning of the second semester.

The Oklahoma Rural Rehabilitation Corporation was established in 1934 as a non-profit organization with the aim of assisting farm and ranch families with their credit needs, especially when such credit was not readily available through regular commercial or cooperative local sources. The corporation was endowed with approximately $2,100,000 of Federal Emergency Relief funds.
