Defective Taillight Leads to Drug and Firearm Arrests

A traffic stop for a defective taillight in Atoka County late Saturday night resulted in the arrest of a man and a woman on drug and firearm charges.

According to a report by Atoka County Deputy Chance Dever, the stop occurred at approximately 9:30 PM on State Highway 3 near South Farris Road. Deputy Dever observed a dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound with a defective passenger side taillight and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the female driver, identified as Gabriel Carlile, appeared nervous. Deputy Dever asked Carlile to step out of the vehicle while she looked for a picture of her license on her phone. Carlile reportedly gave consent to search her belongings and identified the male passenger as Jody Dunham, the vehicle's owner.

At this point, Deputy Golden alerted Deputy Dever to a firearm inside the vehicle. Deputy Dever then asked Dunham to exit the vehicle. A criminal history check on Dunham revealed he was a convicted felon. Dunham was subsequently placed in handcuffs and informed he was under arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a handmade single-shot breakover .410 shotgun and a Savage .22 bolt-action rifle. Deputies also found a broken glass pipe containing a burnt crystal-like residue on the passenger side floorboard where Dunham had been sitting, along with two containers in the center console containing a green leafy substance.

A search of Carlile's purse allegedly revealed a clear plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance and a small container with a glass pipe containing a burnt crystal-like residue. Field tests of both glass pipes and the white crystal substance reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine. The green leafy substance is presumed to be marijuana.

Both Gabriel Carlile and Jody Dunham were arrested and transported to the Atoka County Jail for booking.
