Police Intervention Leads to Atoka Domestic Violence Arrest

Michael Noland of Atoka was arrested Monday afternoon following a reported physical domestic disturbance at an Atoka residence that escalated into a struggle with law enforcement.

At approximately 3:55 PM on May 19, Atoka Police Department Officer Christian Shomo and Sgt. Cody Poe responded to a bystander's call reporting a physical domestic disturbance. The reporting party informed dispatch they had witnessed a male subject strike his wife, observed her nose bleeding, and saw the male re-enter the residence.

Upon arrival, officers approached the front of the home. A female, later identified as Teresa Noland, with what appeared to be blood on her face and mouth, emerged from a north-side door. When asked what happened, the victim stated, 'he tried to choke me,' and indicated Michael Noland was inside.

Michael Noland then appeared at the door, partially concealing himself, and stated, 'You're not coming in here.' When advised to step outside, he slammed the door shut and retreated further into the residence. Due to the immediate nature of the situation and the suspect barricading himself, Sgt. Poe forcibly breached the door.

Upon entry, Officer Shomo located Noland, unholstered his Taser, and ordered him to the ground. Noland refused, slammed another door shut, and moved toward a room. Officer Shomo deployed Taser probes twice, but they appeared to have no effect. Sgt. Poe then deployed three more probes, also with no apparent effect.

Officers then engaged Noland physically. Officer Shomo gained control of Noland’s right arm while Sgt. Poe controlled his left. Noland resisted attempts to be brought to the ground, and once down, he kept his right arm tucked. A pain compliance technique was used to gain control of his arm, and he was then secured in handcuffs.

Atoka County EMS evaluated Michael Noland on scene and removed the Taser probes before he was transported to Atoka County Hospital for further evaluation by Sgt. Poe. He was medically cleared and subsequently transported to the Atoka County bookin facility, where he was formally charged with Domestic Assault and Battery, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing a Police Officer.

Officer Shomo interviewed the victim, who explained that a verbal argument with Michael had escalated in their bedroom. The victim reported that after she attempted to flee, Michael allegedly grabbed and pinned her down, restricting her breathing.

When asked how her nose started bleeding, the victim stated that Michael had been pressing her face down hard, restricting her breathing for what she estimated was approximately four minutes. During this time, the victim reported that she repeatedly told Michael, 'You're going to kill me, you're going to kill me,' and began 'seeing stars and flashes in her vision.'
