Enthusiasts of Oklahoma history and scenic routes are invited to join the Jefferson Highway Bus Tour on Thursday, June 5, 2025, an all-day excursion tracing a segment of the historic Jefferson Highway from McAlester to Durant and back, with stops in several southern Oklahoma communities.
The tour bus will depart from the Hampton Inn and Suites in McAlester promptly at 8:00 AM, heading south to Durant. The itinerary promises a full day of exploration and historical appreciation: • 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM: Downtown Durant • 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM: Unguided visit to the Choctaw Cultural Center
• 11:45 AM: Depart Durant for Caddo
• 12:10 PM - 12:20 PM: Visit the Caddo Jefferson Highway Mural
• 12:20 PM: Depart Caddo for Atoka
• 1:00 PM: Lunch at Reba's Place in Atoka
• 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Explore Atoka, including a special sign dedication
• 3:00 PM: Depart Atoka for Stringtown • 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM: Explore Stringtown and attend a sign unveiling
• 4:15 PM: Depart Stringtown for return to McAlester For local residents interested in participating, a limited number of seats are available on a second bus at a reduced cost of $50 per person. This local option includes lunch at Reba's Place.
