Two Tushka athletes were recently named to a Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association (OBCA) All State team - Zack Brame, catcher and Tristan Gibson, outfielder.
Brame and Gibson were named to the OBCA Small School All State East team which consists of Class 2A-I, Class 2A-II, Class A-I, Class A-II and B. The small east team had 14 athletes named to the team.
The small school’s all-state game is scheduled for Sunday, June 8 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid at 2:30 p.m.
'All-state has always been in the back of my mind, and I have always thought of how cool it would be to be named to the team. When I moved to Tushka I didn’t ever worry about individual awards. Tushka baseball team was like a family to me and our chemistry helped us in major ways,' Brame said.
'Throughout the year I have had the best two coaches. Coach (Landon) Carper and Coach (Jaimie) Hastings turned me into the ball player that I am to this day. The two coaches would do anything for our team and that’s what helped us win. I couldn’t have made All-state without the two coaches I had leading me throughout my senior 'Making All State has been in my mind for a while, looking at people's pictures that have All Stated before me also made me kind of want it a little more at the end of the day, but it was never the main goal. The main goal was to get to the State tournament. Then to win a game, then that led to the goal of to take home gold and not silver,' Gibson said. 'Carper has been one of my coaches in some way my entire high school career. Hastings on the other hand I only had the honor to be one of his players for two seasons. Carper had such an amazing impact on me not only as a player but being a man also. The amount of things he sacrifices for not just me but Tushka baseball is incredible, and I will forever be thankful for that,' he added.
Brame and Gibson recently helped lead Tuska to their first spring state baseball championship in school history with a 3-2 win over Ketchum on May 17.
