Driver Arrested for DUI, Drug Possession After Rear-End Collision

A two-vehicle collision on Highway 69 on June 24, 2025, led to the arrest of a driver for allegedly operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and additional charges, including two prior DUI offenses.

At approximately 5:56 AM, officers responded to a non-injury traffic collision near Lakeshore Drive. Choctaw Lighthorse Police Department Officer J. Kennedy had already identified the vehicles involved as a semi-truck and a Chevrolet Cruz, and provided a Texas driver's license for De Andre Steptoe, identified as the driver of the Chevrolet Cruz. Officer Kennedy noted an odor of alcohol from Steptoe.

Upon contact, Steptoe, the sole occupant of the Chevrolet Cruz, told officers he was driving southbound on Highway 69 when he observed a semi-truck in the slow lane appearing to slow down. Steptoe stated he put his manual transmission vehicle in neutral to slow down but was unable to stop in time, colliding into the rear of the semi.
