Hey Atoka! Before I forget, the veterans will be hosting a fish fry, hamburger, and hotdog cook out on Friday, July 4th beginning at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. This will be held at the Veterans Building which is located directly behind the Atoka County Courthouse for those of you who are unfamiliar with us and our location..
Our original intent was to have this supper, clean up, and then get ready for the coming fourth of July festivities. As of this writing, the city of Atoka elected to have its fireworks display on Saturday, June 28th so we missed that one but are hopeful that some other entity will be hosting a pyrotechnic display of some sort. It is still our intent to have a nice supper for our participants and then partake in a joyful evening with everyone.
June marked the remembrance of fathers everywhere. I hope everyone took the time to reflect on times spent with their fathers and remember all that was passed down to them. I was making my daily morning walk and as I strolled along the quiet asphalt I thought back on my own early days of fatherhood and my young sons as they grew into adulthood.
