Atoka County Assessor Joe Mc-Clour announced his resignation last week, effective Monday, August 4, to take a new position with Oklahoma State University (OSU). However, the planned transition for the office has become more complex following the subsequent resignation of his First Deputy, Lisa Wood.
McClour informed the county commissioners of his decision on Monday, July 7, stating he accepted an opportunity to work for OSU's Center for Local Government Technology, a role involving statewide travel for the Assessor Training Accreditation Program.
'I've enjoyed serving the citizens of Atoka County as assessor for seven years,' McClour stated, adding that his family is at a different stage in their lives. He believes this new role will 'better align with our family needs and allow me to serve a new group of people.' He expressed gratitude for his over 11 years of total service with Atoka County and highlighted his staff, noting, 'I'm leaving behind an amazing staff, who are all fully accredited and skilled at their jobs.'
