Driver Admits to Marijuana Use Before Atoka County DUI Arrest

An Atoka County Sheriff's Captain arrested a driver on July 11, 2025, after observing erratic driving and suspecting impairment. The driver was subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence.

At approximately 1:04 PM, Captain Austin Golden was on routine patrol on Voca Road when he observed a blue vehicle traveling westbound fail to maintain its lane by crossing the marked fog line. Captain Golden initiated a traffic stop on the Mini Cooper near the intersection of Voca Road and Acorn Hill Road.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Captain Golden spoke with the driver, identified as James Luke Jacobs. Jacobs was observed to be slow to react to questions and had glossy eyes. Captain Golden also detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When asked, Jacobs admitted to having smoked 'a couple of joints' prior to driving.
