A Choctaw man faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, and transporting an open container of beer after a traffic stop early Saturday morning in Atoka. The suspect reportedly refused multiple sobriety and chemical tests, admitting he knew he would fail them. The charges are being handled by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
At approximately 1:29 AM on July 26, 2025, Patrolman Grady Blackwood of the Atoka Police Department was on routine patrol when he observed a Ford F-150 pickup traveling at 58 mph in a posted 45 mph zone on S Mississippi Avenue. Officer Blackwood initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into a Mc-Donalds parking lot.
Upon contact with the driver, identified as Raymond Isaac Taylor Cooper, Officer Blackwood immediately detected the odor of alcohol from the vehicle. He also observed multiple open containers of beer behind the passenger and driver seats, and beer caps on the driver's floorboard. Cooper's eyes were red, bloodshot, and watery.
