Defective Brake Light Leads to DrugArrest

A routine traffic stop for a defective brake light on July 26, 2025, resulted in the arrest of a woman after officers discovered a significant amount of marijuana inside her vehicle.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Officer Trevin Loudermilk and Officer Christian Shomo of the Atoka Police Department were traveling southbound on Highway 69 when they observed a white Nissan Altima with a defective driver-side brake light. They initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into a parking lot at the corner of Mississippi and Third Street.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Jenezia Mendez, officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. When asked, Mendez admitted to not having a medical marijuana card and stated there were 'just a couple pre-rolled joints' in the vehicle.
