Choctaw Member Faces Suspended License Charge

A traffic stop in Atoka on Saturday morning led to the arrest of a Choctaw woman who was allegedly driving with a suspended license and failed to use her turn signal on two occasions. The incident occurred within the territorial boundaries of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

At approximately 10:26 AM on July 26, 2025, Officer Zachary Rice, a C.L.E.E.T. certified police officer with the Atoka Police Department and cross-deputized with the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police, observed a white Volvo station wagon fail to signal two turns while traveling on Ohio Street and A Street. Officer Rice initiated a traffic stop on Main Street just north of Court Street.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified from previous encounters as Candace Ashley Cole, Officer Rice informed her of the reason for the stop. Cole stated she thought she had used her signals and then advised she did not have her license on her.
