The Atoka County Commissioners addressed a range of issues during their meeting, from a major personnel appointment to hearing community concerns about road conditions and public safety.
The board's primary focus was the appointment of a new county assessor. After a discussion on whether to appoint an interim or a permanent candidate, the board decided to appoint Trey Harbin to the position.
Harbin, a former Oklahoma Highway Patrol officer with over 20 years of experience, retired from OHP in 2020. His career included roles as a Marshall County Trooper, Lake Patrol, and Executive Security. Harbin, who attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, will still be required to take the necessary Assessor trainings to become accredited and will need to file for election in April of next year if he intends to run for Assessor in the 2026 election.
