Cougars Return 1 Starter from Last Season’s State Quarter finalist Team, Expectations Remain the Same

Only Colby Hodge returns for Caney as a starter from last year’s fall baseball state quarter finalist team. Although the Cougars would love to have another 20-17 as they did last year, the expectation under Head Coach Garrett Green is always the same - be competitive as possible each season and put yourself in a spot to succeed.

With the lack of returning starters this summer, the team had to put in a lot of work and Green stated that he felt like his group did a great job of working hard to prepare for the regular season.

With Hodge being the only senior on this team, he has had to step in to a leadership role. Coach Green said Hodge is a great leader to follow as he is great in the classroom and in practice which translates to his play on the field. Wes Smith stepped into be the everyday catcher this summer and Green hasn’t seen a player work as hard as him in several years.
