Registration Check Leads to Multiple Charges forTexas Driver

A traffic stop for expired vehicle registration on August 2, 2025, resulted in the arrest of a Texas man on multiple charges, including driving with a suspended license.

At approximately 9:56 a.m., Officer Zachary Rice of the Atoka Police Department observed a silver Chrysler 300 traveling south on U.S. 69 with registration that had expired in April 2024. Officer Rice initiated a traffic stop near Virginia Avenue.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Cory Deon Atkinson, Officer Rice noticed he was not wearing his seatbelt properly. Atkinson produced a Texas driver's license, and as he spoke, Officer Rice detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
