High-Speed Police Chase in Atoka County Ends in Crashes, Officer Injury

A high-speed pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies on August 7, 2025, concluded with a Lighthorse officer suffering a concussion and the suspect, William Edward Brown, facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges. The chase spanned several roadways, included multiple vehicle collisions, and ended with a foot pursuit.

The incident began at approximately 11:45 p.m., when Sgt. R. Hummel of the Stringtown Police Department observed a pickup truck cross a double yellow line on SH 43. Brown failed to stop and instead accelerated to a high rate of speed, leading officers on a pursuit through Stringtown city streets and onto U.S. Highway 69. Brown's reckless driving put other motorists in danger, forcing a small SUV to stop and a semi-tractor to brake suddenly.

The chase continued north on U.S. 69 at speeds exceeding 100 mph before Brown turned around and headed south. As the pursuit continued on Wesley Road, Brown repeatedly tried to ram Sgt. Hummel's patrol unit.
