A traffic stop for an expired registration on August 10, 2025, led to the arrest of a Texas couple after officers discovered multiple open containers of alcohol, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in their vehicle.
At approximately 4:39 p.m., Officer Zachary Rice of the Atoka Police Department observed a black Ford F-150 with an expired registration traveling south on U.S. 69 and initiated a traffic stop.
Upon making contact with the driver, Jeffrey David Carruthers, and his wife, Dawn McNabney Carruthers, Officer Rice observed an open beer bottle in a coozie in the center console. Dawn Carruthers claimed the bottle was hers and handed it to the officer.
