An Atoka woman was arrested on drug charges on August 9, 2025, after a traffic stop for a driver's obstructed view led to her admitting to possessing both marijuana and methamphetamine in her vehicle.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., Officer Cheyenne Gilbert was traveling on SH 43 East when he observed a gray Pontiac with multiple items hanging from the rearview mirror. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the Sunshine Gas Station.
Upon speaking with the driver, identified as Sherry Cook, Officer Gilbert noticed indicators of deception and a strong sense of nervousness. Cook, who provided a valid Texas driver's license, admitted that her medical marijuana card was expired and that she 'cannot go without [her] marijuana.' When asked if she possessed methamphetamine, Cook hesitated and eventually admitted she might have approximately three grams of the drug in her vehicle.
