Despite temperatures pushing the 100-degree mark, sand drag racers and fans braved the heat for the August 8-9 Points Race at Atoka Motorsports Park. The intense weather saw some regulars stay home, but also welcomed new competitors to the track, with local and out-of-state racers battling for top honors in both trophy and money race classes.
Trophy Class Results In the trophy classes, racers showcased skill and determination across the board. In Pro 1 Cars, Brad Sivells of Harper, Texas, took the firstplace trophy, beating out Kenny Kapple of Mounds, Oklahoma. Pro 1 Quads saw Joeshia Westmorehunt of Amarillo, Texas, ride to a first-place finish, ahead of Atoka's own Roy Cooper.
The local Atoka racers had a strong showing in the trophy classes. Jessica Powell claimed the top spot in Pro 2 Cars over Brian Parker of Texas, while Jayce Cassens secured the win in Pro 2 Quads, beating out fellow Atoka resident Stephanie Smithart. The Pro 3 trophy went to Anita Zurline of Atoka, with Roy Cooper taking second.
