An Atoka woman was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a traffic stop for a turn signal violation and a defective brake light.
At approximately 7:50 P.M. on August 13, 2025, Officer Cheyenne Gilbert of the Atoka Police Department was traveling on 6th Street when he observed a gray Nissan Rogue fail to signal 100 feet before a stop sign and noted its upper brake light was partially inoperable. Officer Gilbert initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over at the intersection of California and West 3rd Street.
The driver, identified as Amber Thompson, provided a valid Oklahoma driver's license and proof of insurance. While speaking with Thompson, Officer Gilbert detected the odor of burnt marijuana from inside the vehicle. Thompson admitted to having an expired Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Card and stated she had consumed half a gram of marijuana an hour to an hour and a half prior at the 45th Infantry Park, which is located inside city limits and within a school facility.
