A routine traffic stop for defective vehicle lights late Tuesday night in Atoka County led to a series of unusual and serious discoveries, including a wild deer in the passenger seat, a loaded rifle with a defaced serial number, and methamphetamine.
At approximately 10:08 P.M. on August 13, 2025, Deputy Matthew Clay of the Atoka County Sheriff's Office observed a dark-colored GMC pickup truck on Highway 3 with a defective passenger-side tail lamp and an inoperable tag light. Deputy Clay initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of East Wildwood Road and South Iron Stob Road.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Clay was surprised to find a young deer standing in the passenger seat. The driver, identified as David Mobbs, admitted his license was suspended and stated he was 'working on getting a license to own wildlife.'
