As humans, we are wired to judge what we don’t understand, but it's important to recognize this tendency and choose empathy instead. Just as I tell my clients and my own children, 'people are afraid of what they don't understand.' This simple truth helps us move from judgment to compassion. No one needs our judgment, but everyone can use our compassion.
Last September, I focused on articles about suicide prevention, a cause I believe is a necessity. However, September is also National Recovery Month, and since those suffering from addiction are so near and dear to my heart, I want to dedicate this time to advocating for them. I believe it is our responsibility to 'be the change we wish to see in the world,' and for me, that means being a beacon of hope for the recovery community.
