Stop Sticks End High-Speed Pursuit, DriverArrested

A multi-agency police pursuit of a reckless driver concluded with the use of stop sticks Thursday night, leading to the arrest of a driver on a range of charges including eluding police, drug possession, and DUI.

At approximately 9:30 P.M. on August 21, 2025, Choctaw Lighthorse Sergeant Roy Hummel observed a gray minivan traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 69 in Atoka. After observing numerous lane violations, Sgt. Hummel activated his emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, however, refused to yield and continued increasing speed up to the speed limit.

Units from the Atoka Police Department joined the pursuit. The driver continued to drive erratically, failing to maintain his lane and passing several safe opportunities to pull over. Sgt. Hummel advised dispatch that the driver was failing to yield and was possibly intoxicated.
